TomTod Ideas is a nonprofit organization based in Canton, Ohio, dedicated to empowering middle school students to explore and launch ideas that put empathy and imagination into action. Since its inception in 2012, TomTod has focused exclusively on 10-14-year-olds, believing in their capacity to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Challenge:
In 2012, Joel Daniel Harris envisioned harnessing the creative power of middle schoolers to drive community renewal. However, transforming this vision into a structured, sustainable, and scalable organization required strategic planning, organizational development, and ongoing support.
Solution:
From the outset, SSC collaborated closely with Joel and his board of directors to bring TomTod Ideas to life. This partnership included:
Facilitating a collaborative process to define the organization's mission and structure.
Implementing regular StratOp renewals to ensure strategic alignment and adaptability.
Providing ongoing executive coaching to support leadership development.
Conducting employee LifePlans to foster personal growth and organizational cohesion.
Results:
Over more than a decade, TomTod Ideas has grown into a nationally recognized leader in middle school education. The organization has empowered over 12,000 middle schoolers since 2012, engaging hundreds of community partners and launching numerous student-led initiatives. SSC's continued support has been instrumental in guiding TomTod through various stages of development, ensuring sustained impact and growth.
What they thought:
Dave embodies the vital attributes of an excellent facilitator with keen listening skills, an impressive knack for summarizing key findings, and articulate insight into the core opportunities and challenges discovered throughout each tool and the entire process. While many organizations dread strategic planning, our whole team gets excited when they see a StratOp refresh on the horizon, anticipating the time together.
